GINGER CREAM SQUARES

This dessert recipe from the New Idea is an interesting take on the old chocolate ripe cake from the ’60s.  Not sure you’d get away with it only costing $3.50 to make these days, but it would still be an economical dessert for 6 people.

ROAST LAMB INDIENNE

Mum collected this recipe from the Herald Sun back in the ’80s, back then her curries were always made with curry powder.  This must have seemed a bit exotic to her – curry rubbed onto the skin of a lamb roast.  Her lamb roasts were always baked plain and served with homemade mint sauce and, of course, gravy.

STEAMED PUDDING – SIX WAYS

On a cold winter’s night Mum often made a steamed pudding for dessert.  It was an quick, economical dessert for a family of five.  I think it also worked well for Mum as you could put it on to cook mid-afternoon and not have to make it during the tea time rush.  This recipe she cut out from the Herald Sun is great because it gives lots of variations of the basic mixture.

RICE & CHICKEN CAKE

I like the little note that Mum’s written on the top of this cutting – Like a Quiche – which suggests she either made it herself or it was made by someone else and she liked it.  It does seem to have a strange combination of ingredients, especially the cabbage, but it could be worth a try.
