HERBED GARLIC BREAD

I’m lazy these days and buy prepared herb or garlic bread at the supermarket, but back in the 1970s you had to make your own.  This recipe is slightly different because it has both the garlic and herbs in the one loaf.  It says to slice the breadstick lengthwise, butter it and then cut into serving size pieces, again not what we usually did.  Think I’d stick to just cutting it into serving size pieces and definitely wrap it in foil before you put it in the oven otherwise you’ll have butter everywhere.

MINI VEGIE AND CHEESE FRITTATAS

It’s Grand Prix weekend here in Melbourne this weekend.  My husband is a F1 fan and we not only go to the race here every year, but also have been lucky enough to go to several races overseas.  As you’d expect the food on sale at the track varies from country to country.   So far, unsurprisingly, Italy has had the best.  Here in Melbourne it’s all pretty much heavy duty fried things so I usually take a lighter lunch for us.  Tomorrow I’m making these Frittatas to take……..

CHOCOLATE CREAMED RICE

This recipe was published in the Woman’s Day in 1991 and uses a microwave to cook the rice.  I think it would work even better if you cooked it in a rice cooker.  I’d make sure I washed the rice before using it and I’d substitute cream for some of the water & milk.  I think then you’d have a lovely creamy, chocolaty mix.

BAKED SAUSAGES WITH ITALIAN BEANS

The thing I like about this recipe is that you don’t have to fry the onions and sausages before you put them in the casserole dish to cook – saving one step not to mention the washing up.  It’s not a fancy dish, but maybe a good quick one for a busy night.

RAISIN LOAF

This one is out of my recipe collection, although I suspect it’s a recipe that Mum gave to me.  As you can see I typed it up and stuck it in my book with cellotape, which now makes it a bit hard to read. If you’re having trouble it’s simply:  1 cup cold tea, 1 cup raisins, 1 cup caster sugar.  Soak for 1 hour.  Add 2 cups Self Raising Flour, beat well cook for 1 hour in mod oven – 180oC.  When it’s cool you slice and butter it – quick and tasty.

LICORICE ICE CREAM

As my granddaughters will tell you, I love licorice.  They very kindly add extra to any lolly bags they’re making for me and even give me some from their own, such lovely girls………..  So when I saw this Licorice Ice Cream recipe I couldn’t resist sharing it, although I think, like me, you’d need to love licorice.

TAPAS SELECTION

This selection of Tapas delicacies was published in the Herald Sun in about 2002.  Of course they are much more common now, but this selection are fairly simple to make and as the accompanying article says are ideal “taken with a glass of sherry, beer or wine”.

BERRY SLICE WITH STRAWBERRY SAUCE

I almost didn’t post this recipe because Vitari is no longer made by Nestle.  I changed my mind though on googling it and deciding you could use Weis Sorbet instead or at a push a good ice cream.  It looks so tasty in the picture I thought it was worth doing.
