The combination of fish, spinach, mustard and mashed potato make this recipe look really good. I don’t think Mum ever made it, but I’m sure she meant to one day…..

BANANA PUDDING
I think the comments that go with this recipe that Mum cut out of the newspaper make it sound somewhat unusual “economical, keeps for ages and can be made as a cake”. Worth a try maybe?
SWEET POTATO WITH SOUR CREAM AND BACON
I almost missed this gem which was on a Herald Sun newspaper page. Mum stuck mostly to the old style potatoes, which in her day were just potatoes and only came washed or unwashed, big or small. Nothing like today’s variety. I think this recipe looks good, a great way to jazz up sweet potato.
CHICKEN BAKED IN BARBECUE SAUCE
Chicken wings, drumsticks or thighs work really well in this recipe. The sauce has a great tangy flavour and you can serve it as a family meal or a party dish.
CHEESE YUMMIES
By the look of this cutting Mum cut it out of a magazine quite a while ago. I don’t remember her making them, but they look great and are something a little bit different to serve with drinks. I usually make little cheese biscuits or pita bread crisps, but I think these look good and I’m going to try them next time.
MONKEY FACES
These are more of a biscuit than a little cake, but they are another one of Mum’s afternoon tea and supper treats.
MUSHROOM CAKES
These were another of Mum’s afternoon tea and supper delights. They always seemed to me to be a little more fancy that my birthday butterfly cakes. I haven’t made them or eaten them in a long time, but they were great back when I was little.
BUTTERFLY CAKES
I always associate these little cakes with my birthday parties. They were a treat Mum would make to put on the party table and I guess after two sons she was more than happy to make something ‘girlie’ for my birthday. She did make them at other times for afternoon tea with her friends and for suppers, but I still think of them as my birthday butterflies.
APRICOT ROUGH SLICE
It looks like Mum’s collected this recipe off the back of the condensed milk tin. I don’t especially remember her making it, but it looks great and I think I’ll try it out myself.
ROCK CAKES
I can remember Mum having these in the biscuit tin when my brothers and I came home from school ravenous. They still taste good and while they’re still great to have in the tin when the kids get home, adults done mind them either.
