Tomato sauce and cheese on toast has been a well loved favourite in Mum’s and my households for years. Mum also used to make a little afternoon tea/supper snack that was cheese and bacon on toast, but this recipe combines them both. Personally I’m not sure about the garlic, but after finding this recipe I’m now going to give the sauce, cheese and bacon a go.
I have no idea who Adam is, so I thought I’d rename this recipe Meringue Topped Apple Custard. What I like about it is, that as with a lot of the old recipes, there’s no fancy ingredients, just things you have in the cupboard. In this case, milk, bread, butter, apples, vanilla essence, eggs and sugar so that makes it a great ‘last minute’ dessert.
I found this recipe among the collection and think it’s a great way to use up the egg yolks leftover from pavlova making. I usually end up making a very, very yellow omelet, but I like this idea better.
I’ve added Easy to the name of this tart because, although the recipe gives you directions to make your own lemon filling, you could always just use a bought lemon curd instead. No need to admit to anyone that you’ve taken the ‘easy’ way out.
There’s still plenty of time to make your Christmas Pudding, but if you end up needing to make one on Christmas Eve there’s no need to panic – this recipe is the answer.
With most shortbread recipes you rub the butter into the flour and then add the other dry ingredients which takes a little bit of time. Melting the butter instead is certainly an easier option and a whole lot quicker, not traditional, but quicker…..
These are probably my husband’s favourite type of bought biscuit. I must admit I’ve never considered making them for him as I always though they were too difficult. This recipe doesn’t look that hard though so I guess I’ll now have to give them a go.
This recipe pops up a couple of times in Mum’s collection. The first one is pre-metrics so it dates from at least the 1970s. This version has been converted which makes it a bit easier for us now. It’s a pretty simple no bake slice, but it does taste lovely and lemony.
One for the chocolate lovers….. I think the name, Chocolate Cream Pie, says it all……………..
This is a more upmarket version of the old hedgehog recipe which was traditionally made with Marie biscuits. This recipe substitutes sponge fingers for the biscuits, dark chocolate for the cocoa powder and also adds in almonds and cashews. Much fancier altogether and I’m guessing much more delicious.
