These Chicken Nuggets might take a bit more effort to make, but I’m pretty sure that they’d have a lot more flavour than the bought ones. They be could for the kids, but you could also make smaller ones to serve as finger food at a party.
It’s that time of year again when schools, kindergartens and child care centers are having their end of year activities which from my experience always means that parents have to take along a plate of food. Strangely, good wholesome things don’t seem to be that popular, but something like this chocolate and marshmallow slice should be a hit with the kids.
Long before packets of cheese twists appeared on our supermarket shelves this recipe was printed in the New Idea. Making them might take a bit more effort than just putting the packet in your trolley, but they have a stronger cheese flavor and because you make more they work out a lot cheaper.
Instead of using mince steak this meatloaf uses minced lamb and it’s other unusual ingredient is a container of potato salad. Usually potato salad accompanies a meatloaf instead of being mixed in, but the potato and it’s mayonnaise dressing combined with the French onion soup mix make this a tasty change.
As you can see Mum’s cut this recipe off the back of a packet of Cream of Chicken soup mix. It’s a really simple patty recipe that you could add other vegetables to if you wanted, but would be nice with just the potato and shallots.
This is another of Mum’s finds in the Woman’s Day. To be honest I can’t imagine her ever buying and using a packet of cake mix, she’d have made the cake from scratch. She made cupcakes and butterfly cakes that way so I’m sure she’d have done the same for these.
Over the years the Italian influence gradually crept into Mum’s cooking. She cut this Canneloni recipe out of the New Idea in 1994, I’m not sure she actually made it, but I’m sure she meant to one day. It certainly looks good.
This slice looks quite luscious, but then you can’t go far wrong with chocolate, sultanas, cherries, coconut and almonds – can you?
Lamb and beans must have seemed like a good combination when Mum cut this recipe out of the Woman’s Day in September 1998. I think it is still a good combination for a cold winter’s night in 2015.
This recipe is probably how we really think of meatballs, Italian style, served with pasta. I’m not sure Mum would have put the olives in as she and Dad didn’t like them, but I think they are the ingredient that makes the Italian difference.
