When my children were at primary school I helped put together a cookbook as a fundraiser. The school community were asked to send in contributions and we ended up with lots of great recipes. The mother who sent this one in added the note about it being a good ‘first baking’ cake and it definitely is. It’s been made many times in my household by both the kids and me. The added bonus is that it also tastes great.
Sadly, Christmas decorations are already appearing in the shopping centres even though it’s still October. So I suppose it’s nearly time to start working out what Christmas cake and what style of pudding to make this year. I seem to make a different version every year. I’m not quite sure if this recipe qualifies as a Christmas pudding, but if you’re looking for something different it might be worth trying.
I found this recipe the other day in Mum’s collection and thought the name was, frankly, weird – Indonesian Spaghetti. When you read the actual recipe though, I think it might taste OK, haven’t worked up the courage yet to try it though………………..
This is a favourite lamb casserole of mine, I’ve been making for years. The curry powder, ginger and sauces work really well together with the lamb and the pumpkin. It’s very tasty combination.
This salmon recipe says it’s good hot or cold. Cold it could good for picnics or even school or work lunches.
These could be a fairly healthy biscuit for the kids during the school holidays or as they’re pretty easy to make they might even be a good holiday activity. They won’t keep long with the mushy bananas inside, but they probably won’t last long with the kids around anyway.
A true Rum Baba is made with yeast, so this version is much more of a cake, but either way it’s the lovely orange and rum syrup poured over it that makes it so good. Served with cream it makes a great dessert.
To begin with I thought this was corn beef fritters (which would have been good), but when I read the ingredients I realised it’s rissoles/hamburgers with corn, which is till a good mix. I think they’d also work well if you used minced pork with a bit of soy sauce or even minced chicken.
If you add the green coloring I think this could be a great St Patrick’s Day dessert!!!! The peppermint flavouring mixed into the ice cream should be good, but personally I think I’d leave the green out, but that’s entirely up to you.
I’m not sure why this has “For Kids” on the tag, why should just the kids have them? Maybe it’s the suggestion that you add green food colouring into the peppermint flavoured cream, personally think I’d leave it out…………
