CHOCOLATE CHEESE BROWNIES

Here’s another of Mum’s pinned together recipes.  If I’d realised that there was a cellotape shortage in her kitchen I would have donated a couple of rolls to her bottom drawer.  I guess at least the pins kept the recipes together and saved pieces getting lost.  If that had happened we’d never have had this Chocolate Cheese Brownie recipe to enjoy.

CHOCOLATE CORNFLAKE SLICE – Kiddies Delight

I guess Mum couldn’t find the cellotape when she saved this old newspaper cutting and instead used a pin to keep the two sections together.  Unusual perhaps, but it’s done the job for all these years.  I’ve taken the liberty of renaming the recipe as I didn’t think Kiddies Delight was enough of a description for it, but whatever it’s called I think kids would love it.

HEDGEHOG

This a classic slice recipe, not just for my family, but for many Australian families.  I’ve started with Mum’s original handwritten version and then added the typed version from my own recipe collection.  On the side I’ve added the metric conversions.  To be honest I’m not sure when Mum first started making it but I’ve dated it from the 1950s .  I do know though that it still tastes great.Hedgehog compile

MARBLED CHEESECAKE BROWNIES

I’ve been making a chocolate swirl cheesecake for the family for many years and Mum has always enjoyed it.  I think that’s what prompted her to cut this recipe out of the New Idea.  It’s a great way of turning an old favorite into a slice or you can still serve it up as a dessert.

TUTTI-FRUITI CAKE

I’ve always liked this cake, although I don’t know where it got its odd name from. Mum always baked it in a loaf tin and cut it into slices for serving. It has a very light chocolate flavour and you can substitute sultanas for the nuts if you like want to, that makes it lovely and fruity.
