Another one for the kids to make and the whole family to enjoy. Yummy jam tarts. You could use bought shortcrust pastry, but getting the kids to make their own, while a bit messy, would be worthwhile and of course licking the jam spoons would be their reward.
When this cheesecake slice with cinnamon, orange and sultana filling was published in the Woman’s Day it was described as ‘mouth-watering’ and they said that it would ‘really impress your family and friends’. It looks fairly easy to make and should transport well, so they might be right and it would just thing to take when you’re asked to ‘bring something sweet’ to a gathering.
I’m not sure this slice actually needs the rum in it. I think orange, apricot, marshallow and cream are probably enough flavours in one slice.
Back in the 60s using sweetened condensed milk and cereals to make slices and biscuits was quite the thing to do, so this caramel topped cornflake slice was not unusual. It might be a bit old fashioned now, but it’s still cheap and easy to make and tastes pretty good. 2oz butter = 60g.
I’m not sure this is an ideal picnic recipe, unless you kept it cool you could easily end up with a melted chocolate mess on your day out. Think I’d rather make it and eat it at home.
Metric conversions: 8oz = 250g – 2oz = 60g – 4oz = 125g
I usually make shortbread, apricot balls and a couple of different types of rum balls to celebrate the festive season, so this recipe for Plum Pudding Truffles caught my eye. Not sure I’ve got the time to make them this year, but they do sound pretty good, maybe next year.
How many functions do you go to during the festive season where it’s a case of ‘bring a plate’? This slice could be the answer. Easy to make, decorated with white icing and red and green cherries to give a Christmasy feel – job done.
These almond biscuits are thin and crispy and delicious.
These no-bake snowballs have an interesting combination of ingredients – cornflakes, coconut, jam, cake or biscuits – all held together with copha. Don’t think that makes a light and fluffy mix, which is sort of what I’d expect from a snowball, but it does make a tasty treat.
This was quite a favourite back in the 80s, but I haven’t made it for a long time. Understandably not everyone’s a ginger fan, but if you are give it a try – it’s really good.
