As the autumn air starts to turn cooler and we’re in self isolation at home, what better way to warm and cheer ourselves up than a hot banana pudding – even if it means we have to join weight watchers when we finally emerge……….. Stay well everyone.
Inspired by my 9 year old granddaughter, who is cooking up a storm while isolated at home, this week I looked for recipes that kids would enjoy cooking. This one needs some peeling, some grating and some rolling – all easy things to do and it includes vegemite, so I thought that might be an added bonus……
This is an old 1950s (or thereabouts) recipe for chocolate covered caramel balls. With the schools shutting down for an extended time it could be a project for the kids. Obviously, they’ll need supervision with cooking the tin of condensed milk, but the rolling out of the balls could be a fun and messy job for them.
I decided this week to hunt out recipes from Mum’s collection that you could make without flour, pasta or rice, which sadly panic buying wiped off the supermarket shelves last week. I found this Chocolate Almond Cake, it’s heavy on eggs, but if you have enough to make it I reckon it will cheer the family up.
When this cheesecake slice with cinnamon, orange and sultana filling was published in the Woman’s Day it was described as ‘mouth-watering’ and they said that it would ‘really impress your family and friends’. It looks fairly easy to make and should transport well, so they might be right and it would just thing to take when you’re asked to ‘bring something sweet’ to a gathering.
