Monday is the first official day of winter so I thought it might be a good time to add in this really hearty soup. Add a bit of crusty bread and it’s a total meal in itself.

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER ICE-CREAM
I know going into winter is hardly the right time to post an ice-cream recipe, but for some people it doesn’t matter how cold it is it’s never too cold for a bowl of ice-cream. This one has the added bonus of crunch peanut butter and chocolate, so who cares if it’s cold outside turn the heating up and enjoy it……………
WARMING WINTER SOUP
Here’s a very Australia soup to try!!!! Let’s face it who else in the world, except for an Australian, would add vegemite to their soup. I think it looks delicious and definitely intend to make it this winter.
FLORENTINE SLICE
This recipe comes from a Woman’s Day Everyday Food supplement. I’m not sure I’d describe this as an everyday food, but it certainly is a yummy slice for a special occasion or maybe just for a special treat.
VEGIE BACON FRITTERS
These make a nice change from a traditional beef hamburger and as the Woman’s Day hint says ‘fritters can be served in hamburger buns, as a vegetable accompaniment or with a salad’. I’d also suggest serving them between two pieces of toast.
ZUCCHINI LOAF with pecans-3 ways
This Zucchini Loaf is easy to make and if you’re one of those parents home schooling your kids during this Covid19 crisis it could be a good project to give the them as part of their maths work. The added bonus is that you get something good to eat when it’s cooked. I admire you all, parents and kids, it’s a difficult and challenging time and you’re doing a great job. Stay well everyone………………
VEGETARIAN COCONUT RICE TERRINE
Not sure I’d bother making this for a family meal, but when life eventually returns to normal and we’re allowed to have people over again for a meal it would be a great entree or lunch dish. Stay well and safe everyone……………
STRAWBERRY TEACAKE
Looking for something to make for afternoon tea while you’re stuck at home? Why not try this. You don’t have to make it quite as fancy if you don’t want to, it would be just as good without the top cut into 8 wedges and probably a lot easier to eat.
BEEF STROGANOFF POTATO PIES
I guess this is basically a fancy version of meat and potatoes, but what I like about it is that you can make it into small pies and freeze what you don’t immediately need or make it into a large pie for the whole family to share. Either way it makes a tasty meal.
JAM TARTS
Another one for the kids to make and the whole family to enjoy. Yummy jam tarts. You could use bought shortcrust pastry, but getting the kids to make their own, while a bit messy, would be worthwhile and of course licking the jam spoons would be their reward.
